Fire destroys shed and gear at Green Lane Orchard

A blaze swept the packing shed at Green Lane Orchard Company two miles west of Hancock early yesterday, destroying the shed built in 1921, 1,500 new apple barrels, an automobile truck, and spraying equipment. Lack of firefighting gear and a scant water supply led to rapid burial of the fire, with no bucket brigade able to help. The incident follows the shed’s $7,000 construction cost and intersects with Lambert taking over motorcycle stock and continuing bicycle and tire services at 33 East Franklin Street.
