State officers and district readers, plus more than 300 candidates, will participate in the Maccabees ceremonial at the Mag-Mar fralding tonight. Officials say the Me Maccabee caravan of over 6,000 people, en route through Hagerstown in July, will stop here for one day at the ceremony.
A free trial program offers relief for chronic asthma and hay fever with an emphasis on helping hopeless cases where inhalers douches and other methods have failed. Ceremonial events span two days with a giant automobile parade forming at the Hag-Mar building at 6 pm and marching to Public Square. Supremia Commander A. W. Frye and Mayor Bowman will attend a reception from 7 to 8:46 pm. Initiation for 300 candidates from Western Maryland begins at 9 pm, with a degree team from Martinsburg directed by F. H. Palmer.
Delegates from the Lions Club of Hagerstown and Salisbury left at 8 oclock by auto for the District Convention to be held tomorrow. The Maryland Delaware and District of Columbia group will elect a new district governor. Dr A P May of Baltimore is seeking reelection. Officers for the ensuing term will be chosen at the luncheon next Tuesday with Dry J A Watkins expected to be the next president. officers assume their posts the first Tuesday in July.
City officials led by A. Tenney and the Board of Street Commissioners approved rebuilding and repairing streets in Hagerstown. Crews work on Pennsylvania Avenue while sections in the Western area are slated for off and stone treatment. Chief of Police Thes H. Barber reported 97 arrests and 58 dollars in fines from May 6 to May 19, and the commissioners accepted the figures.
Children from a Washington state home returned from Florida on a westward journey. Led by H. M. Dimper, superintendent of Des Moines home, they traveled at night in trucks converted to sleeping quarters and hauled belongings in trailers. The group held a concert before camping for the night as part of a longer coast to coast caravan.
