Twelve Dead In Accidents At Vicksburg Flooded Bayou
In Vicksburg Mississippi twelve people perished as Clear Creek bayou flooded, washing away a 100 foot bridge on a busy highway. Seven cars were recovered with five more bodies pulled later including Mr and Mrs Robert M Schilling and Mrs Sam H Campbell of Oak Grove Louisiana. Two more victims Ann Turner nurse of Memphis and Claude Cox of Jackson were still missing as rescuers evacuated eight others to a Jackson hospital. State investigators cited debris against the spans supports as the cause of the washout.
