Fire largely destroyed the Peerless Fertilizer Company plant in Chestertown Maryland today. Walter W. Hubbard president estimated losses at 200000 dollars, mostly insured, with destruction of materials for 80 carloads of fertilizer. Hubbard doubted whether the plant would be rebuilt.
The Hagerstown Bank and Trust Company announced its initial regular dividend of 3 percent and an extra 3 percent, payable April 4, 1929, to stockholders. These dividends follow the December 17, 1928 merger with the Maryland Surety and Trust Company. Nellie G. Beeler, 20, of Kanitman's Station, was burned on arm and shoulder when her clothing caught fire while leaning over a kettle. she is expected to survive.
