Floods from rain and melting snow drive five rivers over banks in central California and west central Nevada. Reno braces for possible dam failure as Boca Dam water pours 15 inches deep and cities prepare alarms if embankments fail.
John W. Stone filed a $5000 damage suit today in court against the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company. He says an engine struck his Star sedan at the South Potomac street crossing October 9, 1927, due to negligence by the railroad.
Three female detainees at Los Angeles Juvenile Hall assaulted matron Ada Stevenson, leaving her unconscious and gravely hurt. They seized her keys and fled the detention home through the front entrance, prompting a hospital admission for the matron.
A blaze swept the Prince George Hotel in Halifax Nova Scotia on March 26 trapping forty guests inside briefly. Rescue teams worked to evacuate as the Hollis Street business district faced heavy fire exposure. all guests were believed to have escaped safely.
Hundreds of acres of winter sown wheat will be abandoned this spring in Washington County. The smallest wheat crop in 50 years is expected as fields fail due to a harsh winter, frequent freezes, and Hessian fly infestations. Bain, an 18-year-old Clearspring High senior, after authorities found he had discussed suicide and exhibited a revolver in class. Bain shot himself near Big Springs road Friday afternoon. the weapon was reportedly borrowed.
Mrs. Lelia Kefauver wife of the railroad contractor will testify at the inquest into the shooting of William L. Unduch after a quarrel in his apartment Saturday morning. Kefauver is held without bail but not expected to testify.
News reports in New York on March 26 say definite merger proposals are being prepared for submission this week. The Radio Corporation and the Victor Talking Machine Company would unite two firms with securities valued over 250 million dollars.
Coffeyville Kansas March 28 Mrs John M Burke 27 sister of Walter Johnson the baseball pitcher died at her home today.
David J. Lewis of Cumberland, famed as father of the parcel post and former Tariff Commission member, announces his candidacy for the Democratic nomination in Maryland's Sixth District Congress race. He faces incumbent Fred N. Zillman, citing World Court, tariff reform, agricultural relief, coal industry rehabilitation, and personal honesty as campaign issues.
Washington dispatch reports Mrs. Coolidge plans to leave this afternoon for Northampton Massachusetts where her mother Mrs. Lemira Goodhue has suffered a serious relapse in illness. Goodhue has been ill since December with condition described as dangerous. Northampton reports say her condition worsened yesterday prompting urgent notification to Mrs. Coolidge.

In Washington on March 26 Colonel Lindbergh continued his flights over the capital to promote aviation. He turned to diplomatic embassies to recruit passengers with representatives from many foreign lands, along with members of Congress and other Washington officials awaiting their turns in the large transport plane.
Heavy rains in the Potomac headwaters and rapid snowmelt may push the river toward flood stage by tomorrow. At Williamsport the river stood 5 feet above normal, with Cumberland showing a similar rise. Piedmont reports no immediate danger though snow remains in the mountains. Plant operators say past floods prompted preparations, but there is no current fear of a major flood.
Baltimore March 26 An attempt to stop a fist fight between two friends left Charles Golcbroth 37 dead from a bullet to the heart. Samuel Barrazzi and Nick Colono were held after each blamed the other. Anthony Ross and Augustino Perna were held as state witnesses as police traced the four in Rosss automobile. Five shots were fired four through the radiator and one fatal through Golcbroths heart.
Phillip Lee Goldsborough former Maryland governor filed his certificate of candidacy with the Washington County Board of Election Supervisors for the Republican U S Senate nomination. He is likely to be unopposed at the upcoming primary.
The Interstate Commerce Commission issued a second complaint charging violation of the anti trust law in the Loree plan for merging southwestern railroads. The case targets the Missouri Kansas Texas Railroad and concerns the proposed merger.
Berlin reports a Junkers plane departure toward Ireland on the first leg of an Atlantic attempt. William Bradley a salesman and solicitor for the Nations Business Ces Chamber of Commerce publication is held in jail in Chamberaburs awaiting settlement. He is charged with passing two worthless checks one in Waynesboro and one in Coshocton Ohio. Correspondence found in his possession shows he was discharged from his job when his employer learned he was handling checks loosely.
Leonard Johnson former burgess of Waynesboro and longtime head of the Frick Company facility was badly burned and injured when a ladle tipped while extracting metal from a fur mace. The accident occurred at the plant where he has worked for 47 years, with molten brass engulfing his abdomen.
Police say Dave Harper used an open knife while attempting to collect a bill at a cornet restaurant yesterday. He paid a $10 fine this morning on a disorderly conduct charge. Harper had a small pen knife on his person when arrested.
