James Crowley, 44, president of the Chicago Bartenders Union, was shot and seriously wounded while his wife Elizabeth, 44, was killed when shotgun blasts hit their car in front of their South Side home at 7225 Merrill avenue. Crowley identified the attackers, and police found shotgun pellets and wadding in the vehicle.
The forecast calls for Virginia and Maryland to be mostly clear and very cold tonight with increasing cloudiness and milder conditions by Wednesday. Josephine Eoser sues Donald E Moss for fifteen thousand dollars alleging permanent injuries from a July 1 1946 automobile crash two miles east of Hagerstown on a hilltop passing maneuver that crossed a white line and struck a telephone pole. The suit names Wagaman and Wagaman as attorneys.
Two people were treated and admitted to Washington County Hospital after minor mishaps. Mrs. Mary E. Wolf of Virginia Avenue fractured a leg from a fall and received a cast. Mrs. Lester B. Draper of North Prospect Street cut her leg on a clothes basket and was discharged. Mrs. John J. Roger of Mercersburg Rt. 2 was admitted with a severed tendon in her hand. how she was injured could not be learned.
Lewis J. Ruth of this city files a $500 damages suit claiming his sedan was struck and damaged by a jeep owned and driven by James H. Huss on December 8 at the corner of McPherson and Franklin streets. The case was transferred from Allegany County to Allegany for trial in the Cumberland term of court.
Washington March 18 Congress asked Army and Navy leaders to revalue the planned fusion of services in light of President Truman's Greek Turkish policy. Senator Gurney led questions to Patterson and Forrest on how intervention and aid in southern Europe might affect the single cabinet director proposal and the broader military integration. Taft warned a bipartisan statement could back the plan but Republican doubts linger about Soviet wartime risk.
The West End Reservoir wall cementing project will start within three weeks to stop about 290000 gallons of daily leakage. The 10009000 gallon reservoir will be drained for five weeks while Williamsport pumping plant runs 24 hours to maintain city pressure. Planes from McDill Tampa St. Peters burg and Morrison Field West Palm Beach reported no word. Capt Blanchard arrived in Key West after the yacht towed by a Coast Guard boat.

Key West, March 18. President Truman enjoyed a last day of leisure with morning and afternoon swims and sunbathing before returning to Washington. He watched a Bob Hope film after lunch and will board the special plane called the Sacred Cow in the early afternoon to reach the White House for dinner tomorrow night.
Joseph L Rafter aged 19 of Bay Street was fined 10 dollars plus costs for a reckless driving offense and 5 dollars plus costs for driving without a registration card, after a magistrate found him guilty. He was arrested after his auto collided with a parked truck on Hammond Avenue, causing about 750 dollars in damage. Rafter was traveling east on Hammond when the collision occurred with the B and S Implement Co. truck.
