County commissioners approve school bond measure

The Board of County Commissioners yesterday approved a bond issue of about 475,806 for schools and recommended it without referendum to avoid delays. Funds would add 40 classrooms in Hagerstown, build in Clearspring, and fund improvements in Funkstown Halfway Williamsport Sharpsburg Cushen Hopewell Huyetts Big Pool Hancock and Smithsburg. A new eight room Hancock school is requested. a delegation described severe overcrowding with portable rooms and improvised desks.

Assembly Busy Again as Bills Pass and Fail

Annaplé March 19 An unusually active session period saw both House and Senate pass several measures while killing others. The Senate vetoed a bill to allow women jurors. traffic and transit rules were debated. bills to repeal obsolete laws were introduced. Proposals would regulate billboards, open highway work, and tax exemptions. Delaware legislature inquiries, and moves to condemn lands and select penitentiary sites were also in play.

Three Williamsport Bills Introduced by State Senator Keedy

State Senator Keedy introduced three Williamsport bills at yesterday’s legislative session. One plans to extend the town limits to include residents along the Green Castle and Hagerstown pikes. The second bars the Burgess and Commissioners from accepting compensation for any office in Williamsport except Burgess and Commissioners. The third restricts town borrowing for corporate purposes to a maximum of $5,000 at any one time.
