A 30-year-old farm hand was seized in a Ramsey pool hall and confessed to killing Mr and Mrs Paul Brand at their nearby farm. Their 12-year-old daughter Gloria identified the attacker who fled in the Brand car found in Ramsey. Police noted the weapon’s bloodstained rifle barrel and a broken stock.

Kirkwood announced a verdict of death by own action after examining the body, a .22 rifle between the legs and a pencil note on the gun reading I shot myself. The gun stock bore the name Jack Roderick. the note and name were written in pencil.
