An evening surprise party honored Mr. Rowe on his birthday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Chas Rowe in Conococheague Street Fillamsport. Guests included Rev. and Mrs Karl G Newell, Mr and Mrs Charles V Rowe, plus many friends and relatives with a birthday cake supplied by Mrs Rowe.
The Boy Scouts of Washington County sponsor a Friday night performance of The Charm School at the High School auditorium. Merle Kaetzel plays Mr Bereng who inherits a girls boarding school and clashes with Cupid as the tale unfolds.
The Hagerstown Garden Club held its annual luncheon indoors at the Women's Club. Exhibits featured tulips pansies nasturtiums and hyacinths plus fruit blossoms and vegetable tops. Prizes went to Mrs. C D Miller Mrs John D Stottemeyer and Mrs Lewis Byron for arrangements.
Miss Golda Bowers of 911 Potomac avenue hosted a birthday dinner for her entertainment club. Guests included Mrs. J Harold Bowers, Mrs. Frank Rource, Mrs. G Mason Moore, Miss Anna Dennis, Mrs. Clarence Batley, Mrs. Ira H Miller, Mrs. Frank Harper, Mrs. Harry R H Taylor, Mrs. Lee Harper, Mrs. Walter Stoneaster, Mrs. S Seldon Kline.
One hundred couples danced to snappy music by Bob Tula's orchestra at the Morris Frock Post No. 42 American Legion dance in the Maryland State Armory auditorium. Flags and red white and blue decorations created a patriotic atmosphere. John Tenney chaired the arrangements committee.

A Easter sunrise service plan was formed, fund-raising for the state pledge initiated, and April census directed by Charles Morrison. State convention in June at Frederick was announced with Clark named county booster.
A youth play titled Youth in Conquest will be staged Thursday March 2 at 7 45 pm in the Sunday school auditorium of the First Christian church under P C E auspices. The story follows a young couple torn by love and Christianity with an allegorical cast and a youth orchestra providing music. A silver offering will be taken.
Marvello presents dances with Melville and His Californians on Thursday March 2 and El Vena Orchestra on Saturday March 4. Admission priced at 35 cents for gentlemen and 5 cents for ladies.
At the National Education Association convention in Minneapolis on March 4 1933 Miss Carlotta C Greer of Cleveland Ohio notes that girls prefer making blouses from last year’s dresses and puddings from yesterday’s bread crumbs due to tighter family budgets. She heads the association’s Department of Supervisors and Teachers of Home Economics.
The Hi-Hi-Y Girls will inaugurate the renovated Rose Room at the Y M C A tonight with a jigsaw party. The space sports a rose color theme, new curtains, pictures, varnished furniture, bronzed radiators, and added books. The room serves social functions and as a meeting place for clubs of the Ex Hi Y and HY groups. Men’s suits for women circulate in Hagerstown though no wearer seen yet.
The Williamsport High School Dramatic Club presents Clarence a four act Booth Tarkington comedy Friday March 10 at 8 15 pm. The cast includes Mrs Martyn Hannah Flock Mr Wheeler Dale Fearnow Miss Bell leads with strong support from Cora Wheeler Jane Staley Violet Pinney and others directed by Milford Grove a faculty member.
