Points Are Back in Canned Goods Ration Changes
Washington June 30. The ration point holiday ends at midnight tomorrow for canned tomatoes peas and asparagus foreshadowing return of other vegetables to the ration list. Announcing the period from next Sunday through July 29 the Office Price Administration said ration-free vegetables will be reassigned point values with the new 1943 pack. Peas and tomatoes go to five points. asparagus to ten. Zero values left last year’s stocks selling fast, Bowles says rationing ensures fair distribution of new output. Other changes include return of brandied spiced and pickled fruits to rationing with same values, spaghetti and tomato sauces in eight ounce cans at one point less, and 41 ounce vegetable juice cans new at five points. Frozen fruits and vegetables remain ration-free.
