Staley Credited With Seventeen Bombing Strikes in Navy Flyer Roll
Special to Morning Herald Norfolk June 30 Lieutenant David Lee Staley USNR son of D. Lee Staley of Hagerstown Maryland credited with seventeen strikes on the enemy across eight operations by Bombing Twelve from September 25 to April 20. Also named are Maryland natives Lieut Robert Cropper Joseph Reininger and Lester Wilson of Torpedo Squadron Twelve. Operations flew from Henderson Field Guadalcanal and included assaults on Vila Kolombangara Bougainville Nauru Wotje Taroa Engebi and Eniwetok as Allied forces advanced in the Solomons Gilbert Islands Marshalls and beyond.

Woman Arrested on Larceny Charge in Groton Case
Hazel Paulize Spoonire alias Louise Domer was arrested at her East avenue home on a warrant charging larceny of $200 in clothing and jewelry from Mrs. Louise Stead of Groton Connecticut. Detective Wayne Sellman said she had prior larceny conviction and will be extradited this day as Connecticut officers arrive to seize her. The warrant covers clothing, a necklace, locket and chain and a diamond ring.
