In Chicago a conference considered endorsements for or against proposals affecting small dealers. The session featured sharp debate on station access and the role of large companies. Officials urged a fair cost structure and adherence to guidelines.
City tax collections yesterday reached 18,698 dollars, compared with the same day in 1932. Collector Charles E. Fry reported last night that the first five days of this year show about 3,000 dollars more than the five days of 1922.

The bodies of Captain Mariano Barberan and Lieutenant Joaquin Collar, Spanish trans Atlantic fliers, were found in a lagoon in Tabasco. The Nicodemus National Bank observed its fortieth anniversary, noting its June 26, 1893 organization date and original board of directors led by John L. Nicodemus and others. Only Milton Kohler remains as a surviving member. The bank began with 65 shareholders and moved to current quarters on May 1, 1913.

Projects include Tomac Avenue from the high school to the city limits, Pennsylvania Avenue to the city limits, and eliminating crossings on West Washington and West Franklin streets.

Miss Barbara Allen of Glencoe Newfoundland hosted her wedding with an unusual honor guest a fox terrier credited with waking her to save her life when her home caught fire during the event The dog’s timely alert saved her life and was noted as a life saving act by local readers.
Sergeant Joseph F. Desmond receives promotion to lieutenant and will head night patrols. Jesse B. Brown named sergeant to succeed him. Captain Clarence G. Emmert led the promotion review. Desmond joined the force August 27, 1924 and has served as night sergeant since August 1, 1931. Bids on gasoline for city departments opened but deferred. George K. Glover, 33, Martinsburg, W V, struck by a hit and run driver and died at a Martinsburg hospital.
Fragmentary text cites a highway strike near a Pennsylvania motorist and a fatal or severe injury to a person named Glover with a crushed head. The passage also notes nearly half of the world’s wheat surplus being in the United States.
