A group of aviation journalists will tour Fairchild next Thursday June 28. They travel by chartered bus from Washington and arrive about 11 45 am for a plant tour and luncheon in the plant cafeteria. They will depart for a dinner in Washington followed by an informal get together.
Sen Styles Bridges of New Hampshire introduced a bill backing the Truman plan to make the Speaker of the House president if both President and Vice President are unable to serve. A companion bill was offered in the House by Rep. Moroney of Oklahoma.
Hagerstonians planning extended vacations at hotels this summer should bring ration points to prevent eating problems. The OPA will enforce a two year old rule requiring hotels to remove one red stamp and one blue stamp each week, and sugar stamps as guests exceed seven consecutive days or eight meals on the premises. Local boards await state guidance to apply this in Washington county resort establishments.
In Beverly Hills on June 23, Lupe Velez mementoes were sold in a garden auction. Jewelry and furs fetched high sums including $15,400 for two diamond bracelets and $4,950 for a giant square-cut diamond. The sale drew about 400 onlookers, many women, on the lawn behind the mansion associated with the fiery star who died last December 14.

Thirteen Atlantic seaboard governors urged red points in the OPA ration plan be limited to meat only. They pressed enforcement focused on food, not minor items, and called for a single agency to run all national food programs. Hagerstown forms the Hagers town Horse Show Inc a nonprofit to foster saddle horse breeding training and riding. Two boys aged 13 and 12 were arrested by Detective Wayne Sellman and Patrolman John Rohter after allegedly fleeing Merchants Wholesale Grocery on North Prospect street with 10 cartons of cigarettes. Leonard Humelsine saw them enter the building and report the theft as the youths dropped the cigarettes and ran before capture.
