He served in North Africa Sicily France Belgium and Germany including amphibious landings in North Africa Sicily and Normandy. He helped repel the Ardennes offensive and advanced across the Roer and Rhine as his unit pursued German forces until their armies were destroyed. His final duty station was in Czechoslovakia with the First United States Infantry Division which fired the first and last shots of the European war.
Francis H Urner of Frederick seeks rescission of a stock purchase in Maryland Transportation Co from Charles H Sheets and Arthur F Detrow. Urner claims $19 250 plus interest paid for 575 shares, plus a $9 250 draft charged to his account. He alleges breach by Sheets, ICC denial, and seeks a lien on stock and sale if needed.

The 1943 Washington county farm census is nearly complete and the Bureau of Census asks any unenumerated farm to contact County Agent Mark Miller or supervisor Herbert R. Green at the Court House in Ellicott City Maryland. The census covers all general farms and related enterprises small or large including greenhouses nurseries hatcheries poultry bees and crop production valued products.
The record notes that in 1944 several establishments totaled 3250 or more. It asks writers to name owners, provide the location, and specify the type of product grown at each site.
Magistrate M W Bostetter said he will likely hand down his decision tomorrow in the first of about 90 suits filed against Keystone Indemnity policyholders. Testimony was heard in the Dr C A Brown case seeking return of one year’s auto premium as an assessment tied to claims against the now defunct Exchange. Suits were brought by Pennsylvania’s Insurance Commissioner, with amounts from about 6 to 122 dollars.
In a June 22 raid from Guam, four hundred fifty B 29s attacked Japan’s Kure arsenal and five large aircraft plants. The Kure complex, 11 million square feet, produced up to 16 inch artillery and torpedoes. Additional targets included Osaka and Hiroshima area plants at Kagamigahara Himeji and Kobe vicinity, plus Tamashima.
Dr. Robert M. Stabler of the University of Pennsylvania warns that eliminating pigeons in Philadelphia is the only way to curb a long standing contagion risk. He notes that infected birds may spread ornithosis via airborne sneeze and saliva contamination to humans handling feed or contact with a pigeon.
Fire Chief Sam Crow, known for anti smoking in bed campaigns, confessed to friends that he smoked in bed during a hospital stay. His pajamas caught fire causing a minor burn and he was hospitalized briefly.
Patrolman Lewis Blenard completed an instructors course in first aid and water safety at the Aquatic School near Edgewood and has returned to duty. He had previously completed an advanced first aid course and was chosen by colleagues to represent them at the instructors' school.
A legal action was entered through Oswald and Oswald of Hagerstown and Walter E B Linn of Frederick at attorneys, initiating proceedings to obtain a repayment order. The filing indicates representation by named law firms in the case.
