Upton Myers of 55 Summer Street was sentenced to a year in the Maryland House of Correction after a juvenile court conviction for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The charge stemmed from an attempted attack on a ten year old neighborhood girl who testified she was frightened by his gestures.
Wesley Atwell of Eastport was in emergency hospital with a badly lacerated right arm after a truck he was riding struck a cow on the Gibson Island road. The cow was hooked by the horn when the collision occurred.
Washington June 20 Three new initials FHA are about to burst upon the American scene in a big push to make good homes cheaper and more numerous. Harry L Hopkins is expected to head the Federal Housing Administration. A modernization program will start within 30 days allowing property owners to borrow up to 2000 to recondition buildings. Money comes from private sources but the U S will guarantee 20 percent of the loans. A lender and borrower awareness campaign is planned.
James Dangelo, a deaf mute nine year old, became lost in Baltimore. A patrolman used pad and pencil to learn his name but not his address. A magistrate drew a house picture and the boy wrote walk to signal it was incomplete. A ride in a police car led him to recognize his home.
George Lias was awarded the contract to repaint the courthouse interior after bids opened by the Board of County Commissioners. Lias bid £1286 and will repaint the interior including the court hall and offices, excluding the new addition, and will repaint chairs benches and railings.
In Oil City Pennsylvania a young deer eagerness to attend mass led it to crash through a low stained glass window at St. Joseph's church. Once inside the animal fled outdoors, knocking over Rev. J. F. Murphy the assisting pastor as it bolted away.
WASHINGTON June 20 The 73rd Congress found peace time appropriations and obligations high yet far below the 1918-19 wartime outlay. Estimates range from 6.8 to 17.9 billion for the recent session as experts warn the figures could become campaign issues. Representative Taber calls the totals extravagant and taxpayers neglected.
Gertrude, 18 months old, daughter of EB E. Faith, living west of Hancock, was struck by a Western Maryland fast freight near her home. The engine, driven by engineer C A Carbaugh, brushed the child from the track, leaving a deep head gash but no serious injuries or broken bones, and the child was taken to a physician for care.
Three farm residents were found with Malta Fever last week after months of intermittent illness resembling typhoid. Blood tests confirmed Malta Fever germs and linked infections to abortive cows on the farms through handling or milk. In Hagerstown area, 40 to 50 county herds have been tested and all 28 milk dealers have clean health bills.
A thief entered the lit lobby of the Union League Hotel at 20 South Potomac Street and escaped with a Holson desk model radio. Employees found the loss this morning and notified headquarters.

The Williamsport Sewerage Commission opened seven bids for the sewage project. Bids ranged from 69990.50 to 91083.00 with award expected within a week. Bidders included Ryan Construction Philadelphia Ligon and Ligon John Matricciani Marine Contracting N Martell and Charles J Spielman Baltimore and W Harry Angle Hagerstown. Federal aid covers 30 percent of costs. bond authorization up to 88000. Representatives of Federal and State departments attended. Engineers are Whitman Requardt and Smith of Baltimore.
Yale University conferred an honorary Doctor of Laws on Franklin D Roosevelt in a June commencement ceremony at Woolsey Hall New Haven. The Harvard graduate was praised as a brave leader of the people in a time of peril as the university welcomed him into its family of adopted sons.
Charles Town West Virginia June 20 A fright from a race horse bite is believed to have caused the death of Harry B Small last night at the track. While at the Idle Thoughts event an employee rubbed his arm with alcohol. Small fainted and died a few minutes later with heart failure listed as the cause.
Maryland Governor Albert C. Ritchie campaigns in Cumberland to claim western support for a fifth term, disputing rival Radcliffe as a Roosevelt man while endorsements from 112 Garrett Democrats back Radcliffe and a senatorial bid for Ritchie with Herbert R. O’Conor as attorney general.
Scotland Yard narrowed the trunk torso murder line today noting the Brighton trunk victim was under thirty, with initial exams placing the woman younger than earlier estimates of about forty. Her legs were logged in a London suit case as investigators press to link or separate the Agnes Turverson disappearance.
HIAWASSEF Ga June 20 William Kinsey Garrett aged 88, a Civil War sharpshooter, is described as the father of 15 children with 75 grandchildren and 1st great-grandchildren, totaling 223 descendants. Ovila Dionne of Corbeil Ont. is noted for quintuplets but Garrett takes pride in his large family.
Mrs Edward P Thomas of Frederick owns a bulldog that sought veterinary care so eagerly it visited the doctor alone for several days. The dog, suffering canker sores on the ears, returned daily to the office and submitted to treatment. The veterinarian noted most dogs resist care, but this one willingly endured the procedure and now the ears are well.
William A. Rosenberger led state and county tax payments this morning while Civil War veteran David H. Hager paid city taxes first. Crowds filled both the county and city offices, with June discounts of four percent for city taxes and five percent for county taxes. City auto owners were reminded that city union taxes are collected by County Treasurer John G. Bower.

San Jose reports search for Mrs. Sibyl Fidanque turned to San Francisco as Justice Department agents and police probe kidnapping possibilities. A bus station attendant sold a ticket to a woman resembling her to the city, while federal agents monitor mail and telephone service. She has not been seen since Saturday. Relatives doubt she left home voluntarily.
Seven gunmen attacked Farmers and Merchants Bank in Crescent Oklahoma at 2 am. They shattered a plate glass window, tried to haul a 5600 pound safe to a truck, and held 75 residents at bay with sawed off shotguns. They escaped with a half dozen captives, releasing all but watchman Joe Stanfield near the river bridge five miles south.
A common pleas court jury valued a boy's tongue at 12000 dollars. William Boich of Rock Station sued the Duquesne Light Company. On April 19, 1932, while climbing a tree, the boy touched a high tension wire and bit off his tongue due to the shock.
Casper Young of Bet Air Road and Hymie Cohen of Baltimore were among 11 injured when a Philadelphia to New York bus collided with a car. Young had lacerations to his right leg and Cohen suffered internal injuries with a possible leg fracture. Bus driver Reginald Steelfox of Wickham Road, Baltimore, was uninjured.
