Berlin authorities plan to cut funeral expenses by replacing bulky coffins with compact designs and by sharing hearses. The move targets working people and expects major savings in labor and materials, making decedent burials cheaper and more accessible.
Will permit of shallower graves and require less wood, while transportation charges will be cut 75 percent.
The Board of Street Commissioners decided to paint pedestrian pathways at all street intersections to aid safe movement. They urged a no parking zone on Potomac street in front of the Colonial Hotel from Antietam street north 30 feet to widen turning space. The board will study street building in Baltimore and Washington for materials to rebuild Potomac street from Antietam to Willow Lane. Police Chief Barker reported 236.50 in fines and 56 arrests from June 5 to June 19. Reports from A B Grubmyer and C A Tenney were accepted.
Frances Thompson alias Fred Thompson, a 42 year old cabaret habitué, was identified as the killer of Richard C. Tesmer during a robbery at his Gold Coast home. Mrs. Tesmer, the widow, bet the identification, Chief Hughes announced. She was described as abnormal and sometimes passing as both man and woman and was moved to the Tesmer home after protest at the raid.
D Ramaciotti owner of Hotel Franklin on North Potomac street started a force of men Monday to remodel the hostelry. The entire interior will be changed and reconstructed with a lobby waiting room and clerk’s office on the first floor and two store rooms added. The Board of County Commissioners met yesterday handling routine matters.

Robert E Grabill, 63, manager of the A and P store on South Potomac Street and conductor on B and O freight between Brunswick and Cumberland, was killed instantly Sunday at 11 am while walking across the tracks near the bridge crossing Brunswick when a local shifting engine struck him.
