Few Bootleg Queens Anymore They Act As Helpers In Racket
Washington June 11 Prohibition officials say the bootleg queen is a myth with only 35 women sent to federal institutions for bootlegging since January 1. Women serve mainly as helpers answering phones keeping accounts and acting as lookouts. no woman has been convicted for leading or transporting bootleggers. Officials suggest women are new to the trade and unlikely to become leaders yet some applicants seek clemency showing they followed rather than led. One 18 year old sentenced to two years for possession merely took the blame for an aunt.
