No Five Cent Loaf In Sight In Hagerstown
Hagerstown bakers respond to Secretary Wallace’s claim that a five cent loaf could return. They say many factors must improve before such a price. current local loaf sizes and costs keep bread cheaper here, with New York at 11 cents for 20 ounces and national averages around 10 3 10 cents per pound. Retail prices run higher, and few items in bread making will drop quickly, making prewar prices unlikely soon.
