Fire swept through the Weagley grocery at 628 Galem avenue damaging the store and three adjoining families. The blaze started after hours in the cellar and spread to the upper stock. families fled with scant clothing. Firemen fought the flames through the night and recalled crews after a morning rekindling.
Fire destroyed the grocery stock and damaged furniture after midnight as flames swept two Wengley properties. Origin unknown, rapid spread led to speculation of arson. A false alarm occurred at Jambon Cold Storage when rubbish burning in a yard was extinguished before firefighters arrived. An oil discovery was reported near Berlin.
After services at the First Baptist Church the congregation marched to the new Sunday School building for the cornerstone laying. Deacon Howard M. Shope placed the stone as the choir sang and prayers closed the ceremony. Rev J Y Irwin spoke on Our Forward March from Matthew 11:12, urging members to support Christianity through giving.

Six year old Bar Shaffer of 276 South Potomac Street sustained a fractured leg after a collision on Western Pike near Hagerstown. Paul Renner of 735 West Church Street was arrested for failing to stop after an accident following a passing maneuver by William Hovis of Hagerstown. The child was taken to Washington County Hospital with leg fractures and other injuries. Renner was ordered to appear before Justice Bower for a hearing.
