Baltimore officials began releasing prisoners ahead of schedule under a statewide reform that standardizes time served for non payment of fines. City Jail Warden Charles P. Ridings Given Eight Months For Post Office Theft
Harry C. Ridings, 67, was sentenced to eight months in a Federal penitentiary by Judge W. Calvin Chesnut in Baltimore after being convicted of taking a letter with $17 from the Hagerstown Post Office. Ridings had worked for the post office since 1935, moving from Martinsburg to Hagerstown, and was arrested here several weeks ago by Postal Inspectors.
