Washington June 2 The Speaker Rainey words carried dictatorial power as the Democratic House gagged itself. The Republican minority’s two day filibuster collapsed but its leaders claimed victory by forcing Democrats to reverse and seek autocratic power. The Senate faced a filibuster breaking accord aiming to pass the tariff bill late Monday.
County officials outlined a $56000 decrease in Washington county's taxable basis citing private sales public purchases and factory closings. Tax Supervisor Guy Gantz noted most cuts come from business quitters with $50000 wiped from personal property and several stores going out of business reducing stock in trade and equipment taxability.
In Manchester a three year old girl Helen Sharp became critically ill from poison developed after a cut on her foot. She died last night while being rushed to a Baltimore hospital. Dr. Edgar Rush of Hampstead drove the 34 miles in as many minutes to reach the hospital.
