First Unfavorable Trade Balance Since 1931
The Commerce Department reports June exports at 119,900,000 while imports reach 122,000,000, marking the first unfavorable balance since August 1931 though the August deficit stood at 1,871,000. Leonardstown man Jack Hawley, 35, of Washington, loses a middle toe when his foot is caught in a boat flywheel while fishing on the Potomac near Ridge Maryland. He was treated at St. Mary’s Hospital and later moved to a Washington hospital.

Bandit Killed By Vigilantes
YORKVILLE IL July 24 An all night man hunt by vigilantes climaxed with the slaying of a bank robber and the capture of two companions. Deputies said the dead man was likely a Chicago gangster. The posse traced footprints from a $300 Millbrook State Bank robbery to woods where one bandit was killed and the others surrendered after a firefight at dawn.

Sharks Invade Chesapeake Bay Near Annapolis
A school of sharks terrorized Chesapeake Bay near Annapolis Maryland driving bathers from the water and frightening fishermen. Reports say several sharks have appeared since Friday especially near Herring Bay and even damaged caught fish. Fishermen planned to return by boat with hopes of driving the sharks away.

Prisoner Fined For Assault On Officer
Magistrate Richard Sweeney in city court yesterday morning fined Tilghman Sandy of Tilghman ton 100 dollars or 30 days in jail for assault on Sergeant Jesse B. Brown. Sandy, arrested on reckless driving, allegedly took a pass during search and was fined 10 dollars plus costs on that charge. Four Baltimore runaway youths were held for Baltimore authorities and twelve drunks appeared before the magistrate.
