Local USC Two-Year Record Of Community Cooperation

Hagerstown USO marks two years of volunteer support from a broad cross section of the community. Since July 1942 volunteers from Sunday schools bowling leagues clubs and the Red Cross have hosted served and aided visiting armed forces personnel. Brig. Gen. Banfill and Col. Cook will attend a Sunday salute to volunteers at City Park with a program in the YMCA auditorium if weather permits.

Myron Johnson Talks At Washington County Museum Exhibition

Myron Johnson, one of Fairchilds twelve artist engineers, will lead three satirical gallery talks on Artists Think Theyre Funny at the Washington County Museum in City Park. The talks on July 22, 25, and 27 at 8 30 p m run during extended hours to 10 p m for defense workers and locals to enjoy the exhibit and a public vote for favorite artist with prizes awarded that evening.

Local marbles champion crowns Kuhn at City Park

H C Kuhn defeated Robert Eaton yesterday at City Park to become the new marbles champion. The match revives a prior grudge from last winter when Eaton won. Crowds cheered as Kuhn surpassed his young rival, signaling a notable day in local play.

San Mar Children Attend Dahlia Club Picnic

Halgerstown Dahlia Society hosted twenty eight children from the Washington County Orphans Home at its annual City Park picnic on a Thursday evening. Guests included W Walter Esmer superintendent of the home Mrs Esmer and three staff members. Prizes rounded out games and supper for around two hundred attendees. Next meeting at the Y M C A on August 14 will finalize Dahlia Show plans.

Despite bad weather thirty five children and ten adults attended the Pet Show at Woodland Way Playground last evening. Marilyn Ridenour led the event with judges awarding ribbons to winners across fifteen entries including dogs cats fish rabbits ponies and more.
