July 19 1932 social notes list Miss Julia Stouffer returning to work at the People's after vacation. Mrs. John Dunn and family travel to Kansas. Residents visit relatives in Baltimore Washington and Harrisburg with a wide range of trips and greetings noted.
Top flight at Fountain Head Country Club ends with Mrs W Preston Lane Jr defeating Mrs Norman B Scat. In consolation flight Mrs Arthur Crosson beats Miss Emma Geiser. Prizes include silver candlesticks and an electric clock. Next week July 7 local club hosts 18 hole match at Waynesboro with tea to follow.
A joint meeting of the Women's Missionary Societies of Christ and thon Reformed churches was held last night at the parsonage of Christ Reformed church with seventy five members attending. Talks on the mission work of the Reformed Church in Japan were given by Rev. Frank L. Fesperman and his wife Mrs. Fesperman, now furloughed from Sendai Japan. Refreshments followed. Miss Magdalene entertained her Sunday school class at her Washington Square M E church home on McDowell avenue. Mrs. Frank Baker is the class teacher.
Do You Recall Dr. C. R. Scheller reported 200 cases of whooping cough in the city and county. Corn was selling for $1.89 per 70 pound bushel and flour for $12 a barrel. Boonsboro council fixed the town tax rate at 50 cents on the $100 and reappointed Vincent Flook, collector. J Clarence Lane among eleven Marylanders appointed second lieutenants in the regular army. Mrs Samuel Geiser Smithsbury announced the wedding of her daughter May F Frances to Dr H L Farquhar of Philadelphia. With Cumberland in the league Blue Ridge moguls were agitating Sunday baseball.
Miller Wingert of this city passed exams to practice law. William Chrissinger was appointed U S Deputy Marshal for this district. Frank M Garver and Wm H Neikirk sailed from Baltimore for a European tour. Clarencé Monegan of Corbett’s owned a fourteen year old chicken. Rev Preston A Cave, local pastor, received a call from a large Springfield Illinois church. he was based in Richmond Virginia.

Lightweight wool or cotton dominate summer sweaters. mesh blouses, white jersey jumpers, and bright color knits pair with skirts. Evening wear includes a white chiffon cape and royal blue velvet accents.

A three day street bazaar will be held Thursday Friday and Saturday evenings in Washington Square to benefit Washington Square M. E. Church. Permits were granted for the use of part of the square on the Washington avenue side. Rev. Edgar H. Sowers, pastor, serves as general chairman with church department representatives assisting. Booths will be set up and the square will be festively decorated for the opening. Entertainment, meals, and a variety of goods will be offered for sale.
The First Christian Church will hold its annual picnic at City Park on Wednesday July 20 with large attendance expected. The seven part program runs from 2:00 to 6:29 pm led by Miss Margaret McCleary Mrs William Horst Mrs Mary Beeler Mrs Stanley Adams Leonard Shingleton and others. Dinner is at 5:00 to 6:29 pm followed by games and fun led by Mrs Frank Harper and Mrs Harold Bowers.
A large cast will perform the operetta Lost a Comet this evening at o'clock in Trinity Lutheran Sunday school staged by St. Mark's Lutheran junior choir under Trinity Cradle Roll auspices. Mr and Mrs Lloyd Fearnow hosted Bettys sixth birthday at City Park with games refreshments and a pink birthday cake. The Christ Reformed church Sunday School picnic, led by Rev. H. A. Fesperman, will be held at Red Bridge Park near Chambersburg. Attendees depart from the church at 8 30 for transport to the site and a 25 piece band will perform.
