States Agree on Price for Harper's Ferry Toll Bridge

Maryland and West Virginia propose to pay 75 000 for the toll bridge franchise and wrecked span as a path for regional commerce. Governor Nice and Governor Kump back the bid but oppose any toll terms, warning federal funds depend on a toll free project. The offer awaits stockholder approval after a Baltimore meeting with officials from the road commissions and the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad.

Shrine Convention Opens Amid Bridge Fund Spend

The annual Shrine Convention opens spending the emergency bridge fund of 1 560 000. The State Roads Commission plans for new bridges to replace flood destroyed structures at Hancock Shepherdstown Point of Rocks and possibly Harper s Ferry or Sandy Point. The Maryland Roads Commission offered 25 000 for a franchise amid a 256 000 asking price. Attendees include Governors Tabler and O Connor and commission leaders from Maryland and West Virginia.

Westinghouse reports largest second quarter profits since

New York July 16 Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing Co reports the largest second quarter profits since. The company shares the honors with American Telephone and Telegraph Co which also posted increased earnings in the June quarter and in the five months ended May 31. Other manufacturers reported revenues for the June quarter or first half exceeding last year.

Junior Band Outdoor Concert At City Park Opens Series

A large audience enjoyed the Y M C A Junior Band concert at City Park last evening. The event kicked off a new summer shell program, praised for its beauty and quality entertainment by the Park Board. The children performed well in a strong start to the season. The Beiderwolf prayer meeting is at Mrs Oscar Stonifer home on Spruce and Howard streets Thursday evening.

Rohrersville Church Services and Summer Events Report

Rohrersville notes list Sunday services at United Brethren churches with a 7 45 pm speaker C R Perry. Mountain Top at Crampton Gap worship at 6 pm and Rev S R Se Christ from Bethel V B church to deliver a message. A Sunday school festival is planned for July 25 in Stoner woods and an August 15 annual picnic in a woods. Daily Vacation Bible School at the Church of the Brethren in Brownsville enrolls many local children. Local families and visitors record recent visits and gatherings with neighbors in Windsor Pa and Boonsboro attendance.
