Record barley yield at Isaac Shank farm near Hagerstown

A new season record was set yesterday at Isaac Shank farm five miles north of Hagerstown as 183 bushels of bearded barley were threshed per hour. John Wolfinger operated the threshing machine on a 15 acre field that produced 703 bushels, about 45 bushels per acre.

Richmond July 32 The Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond reported that Fifth District department store sales in June rose three percent over June 1928, based on 37 stores surveyed. National totals across 491 stores rose five percent.

County Board to Baltimore for roads conference

The Board of County Commissioners will travel to Baltimore with Clerk J R R Black for a State Roads Commission conference to discuss the county taking over all county or lateral roads in Washington county. About 500 miles of lateral roads exist, with October 1 as the potential takeover date, and funds from the lateral gasoline tax to cover equipment and minor work.

A Berryville child was treated at Winchester Hospital after swallowing a barrette clasp. Examination showed the clasp in the throat but it slipped into the stomach as doctors attempted to retrieve it.

Motorcyclist 18 Injured in Collision near Sharpsburg

An 18 year old motorcyclist was slightly injured when his bike collided with a car driven by Harold H. Semler near Sharpsburg at Cannon avenue and Antietam street.
