In spite of cool weather early in the month, hotWeather made up for it during the closing days and as a consequence business boomed at the municipal swimming pool during dune. Figures released last night show that 11,493 persons enjoyed the water of the pool last month as against 9,897 for the corresponding month a year ago. Total receipts last month were $1,566 as against 51,349 In June, 1940.

Porter given life for attacking 10 year old girl
In Towson Maryland on July 11 a 25 year old worker, Letcher McNeil Porter, was sentenced to life imprisonment after being convicted of criminally assaulting a 10 year old girl and leaving her unconscious in woods near Miller's Island road. The jury verdict occurred in Baltimore County Circuit Court with Judges C Gus Grason and William R Lawrence presiding. The girl testified she spent the night in the woods and reached relatives' home the next morning.
