Washington July 5 Interior Secretary Ickes urged steel prices cuts and broader co operation with the Government to aid the President's program and reduce unemployment. He spoke on the Washington Star radio forum saying private industry could better the economy through price reductions and proper conduct, warning against collusive bidding and graft.

Skunk Parade Causes Crash in Staunton
In Staunton Virginia on July 5 a mother skunk and five youngsters wandered onto a highway. A. Moyer halted his car to show the skunk parade to his children. J L Coffey failed to see them and collided with the Moyer vehicle rear end. Mrs Coffey suffered a broken arm and three Coffey children were injured.

Fireworks Display At Fairgrounds Pleases Record Crowd
Fireworks at the Hagerstown Fairgrounds drew over 3,000 people for the Washington County Boy Scouts safe celebration. Youth Killed In Independence Day Speedway Crash
At No Ho Kus speedway a racer crashed into the infield crowd during the 20 lap main event. A 12 year old boy died at Hackensack General Hospital and about 10 more were injured. Drivers Fritz Brehm and Henry Guerand were involved as rear wheels locked and the car hit the guard rail. The incident sent several spectators to Patterson area hospitals. Fireworks blast kills boy. three injured at Shad Point
Salisbury Maryland July 5 11 year old Douglas Brewington died instantly and Benjamin Rogers 25 and Paul Rogers 15 were critically injured in a fireworks explosion at Shad Point four miles south of the city. Investigating officers said the blast occurred in the Rogers home basement where power from firecrackers was poured into a pipe. Benjamin Rogers lost his left leg and left hand fingers while Paul Rogers lost toes. They were taken to a local hospital as the boy's body was described as maimed beyond recognition. Basements and the Rogers home suffered severe damage.
