A hurricane on Tuesday struck south Trinidad causing at least twelve deaths and widespread destruction. About 300 houses were razed and the Trinidad Petroleum Company buildings at Paloseco were ruined. A coastal steamer was dispatched with supplies and medical aid to Cedros, one of the hardest hit areas.
Under a scorching sun after the hottest night on record the mercury rose to 95 by noon at the Kreider Reisner weather bureau with forecasts of 100. Dry ground worries farmers as corn needs moisture and several midwest areas report scorched crops. Thundershowers are expected tomorrow but no relief from the heat or humidity. Detroit reported two heat deaths, Cleveland four with three drownings, and Pittsburgh nine prostrations and 27 drownings as all June heat records fell.
William Stamiford a 65 year old Harford County farmer was killed last night when struck by a hit and run automobile on the Jarrettsville pike near his Baltimore suburb home.

In Smithsburg the Winders family stirred a high alarm when six year old Billy found a three foot copperhead snake within a few feet of a crib where 18 month old Marlene slept. Mia Winders killed the reptile with a hoe. Copperheads are reported more plentiful this year and their bites are highly poisonous, often fatal without prompt medical care. How the snake reached the second floor remains a family puzzle.
In Chicago on July 1 a group of forty prohibition agents in the district faced dismissal. Five disclosed they have established new ties and will enter the beer trade, signaling a shift from enforcement to commercial venture amid changing enforcement climates.

Chicago dispatch reports detectives arrested Lee Turner a reputed gangster from East St Louis on suspicion of kidnapping Charles Augustus Lindbergh Jr. Authorities later said Turner was wanted only for a violation of the Dyer Act and New Jersey police had no Lindbergh record. Police planned to turn him over to federal authorities.
The forecast covers North and Middle Atlantic States with showers Monday into Tuesday, then generally drier except a chance of showers Saturday. Temperatures stay above normal early in the period before cooler air arrives by Monday night.
New York reports a sharp rise in dividends for June 1933 with 82 favorable changes versus 48 in the same month of 1932. Dividends resumed on 27 stock issues in June, up from 11 in May and 4 in June last year, as 18 companies approved increases compared with earlier months.
Postmaster General James A. Farley appointed Nellie T. Reed as post mistress at Williamsport effective immediately. She succeeds Mrs. Luther Miller in the county’s first administration change. Reed, a Williamsport resident and former public school teacher, announced Matthew McClannahén as her assistant.
Fishermen were out as early as 4 0'clock for the bass fishing season opening on the Potomac and the Conococheague. Streams were in fine condition with the Conococheague clearing after a muddy spell. State figures Byron Reed and W P Lane joined early anglers in pursuit of bass near Antietam and Monocacy.
United States Marshal's auctioned a confiscated 1827 coupe seized for a prohibition violation for two dollars and fifty cents. Sale costs totaled $57.08. In Rockville, Montgomery County tax rate for the new fiscal year was set at 95 cents per $100, down 25 cents from last year.
Washington county unveils a new land record index system praised as one of the finest in the nation. The project, begun last October and finished yesterday, spans records from 1777 to 1932 in 30 large Cott Index volumes. Clerk of Court Edward Oswald announced funding from excess office fees, with I E Martin of Cott Index Company supervising and local assistants completing the work.
Baltimore officials announced the state roads commission will advertise about 3 million dollars for road and bridge construction under Maryland public works. Approvals from Washington are pending. Early projects include widening ends of Belair Philadelphia and Annapella roads and the Leo Nardstown Baltimore city highway. Treasury approves resuming business for the Towson National Bank of Tennessee, Md.
Ruth Moser and Jennings G Moser filed two damage suits in Baltimore court naming William H Bowers and Parker M Spangler as operators of the Pen Mar Park merry-go-round as defendants. Mrs Moser seeks 19000 claiming permanent injury from an August 27 1931 incident. Her husband seeks 5000 for loss of his wife's services. Earhart diverted to St Louis for fuel, then resumed, while others pursued the Western path from the East. The field includes Russell Boardman, Ruth Nichols, Lew, and Wedel, with prize money and a national all races title to be decided by elapsed time.
