Mother Held In Death Of Infant Child By Starvation
A 24 year old mother Mary Jane Wilson Clark is charged with manslaughter in the death of her two week old son Charles Edward Clark from malnutrition. The infant, born January 11, weighed over eight pounds at birth and about five pounds at death. Doctors said starvation caused death and described the home as filthy with no running water. The mother testified she fed the baby as she believed hospital instructions allowed, while the State notes the child should have received four ounces six times daily.
