Burger Is Fined On Liquor Charge
Milton Burger operator of a grocery and meat market at Jonathan and Bethel was fined 200 dollars and costs in city court this morning after being found guilty of selling liquor without a license. He appealed. A federal agent testified he entered the establishment Saturday and saw several men drinking. He asked for a shot and Burger hesitated then said he had something for friends. The agent said another occupant offered a drink, Burger then said no free drinks and that if the stranger wanted a drink he would pay for it. The agent paid.

Two Countians Win Honors For Bravery On Western Front
A Hagerstown boy Pvt Alfred G Campbell and a Smithsburg boy Sgt Daniel W Deal of the 29th Blue and Gray Division earned Bronze Stars for valor in France. Campbell drove under heavy fire for the assistant division commander and endured exhausting conditions. Deal carried wounded men to shelter when their company area was hit by shellfire.
