The elephant carried a woman, suitcases, and kitchen items while traffic and neighbors watched as the animal caused a scene before returning for a carrot guided snack. Williamsport Chief George Zimmerman said the Williamsport Fire Company answered 94 fire calls in 1965. The breakdown includes 35 cellar or gas fires, 23 home fires, 17 auto fires, four yarn fires, three false alarms, two tannery fires and 10 other kinds. Estimated property loss was $64,100. Firefighters averaged 49 minutes per call, traveled about four miles per call, and eight per shift. A meeting of the fire company foster board will be Thursday February 1 at 8 pm in the Red Men's Hall.
