The city adopts a comprehensive traffic ordinance signed by M Wertz and Len Roulette that bans parking on red curbs, designates loading zones, requires night bicycle lights, and enforces curb stops except in emergencies. Pedestrians must use designated crossings and walkways are restricted.
The police captain approves a new ordinance restricting speeds to 20 mph on business streets and 25 mph in residential areas, designating one way streets and prohibiting soliciting rides. Driving near funeral processions, within 20 feet of railroad crossings or fire halls, or following a fire truck within 500 feet is illegal, as is driving over a fire hose. Violators face up to 25 dollars fine and 10 days jail. ignoring verbal summons constitutes misdemeanor.
An advertisement urges immediate action against colds with Bromo Quinine. It claims the remedy fortifies the system and halts a cold within 24 hours when taken as two tablets every four hours. The text promises safety, low cost, and wide availability at druggists.
Annapolis reports that Mrs. Harry W Nice urged an appropriation to restore Maryland Governor's Mansion to former splendor. The governor plans to repair and modernize, plus 6,000 for grounds landscaping, per State Planning Commission.
Johns Hopkins Medical School in Baltimore received a new gift of 150000 dollars from the estate of Joseph Raphael de Lamar, who died in New York in 1918. The estate already has provided nearly six million dollars, with one third each going to Harvard Medical School and Columbia University, and one third to Johns Hopkins. The latest gift carries no restrictions, and comes from the surviving executors of the estate.
The report notes a continued drop in death rates from various diseases after a mass immunization effort. Typhoid fatalities fall to two in 1934, tuberculosis deaths decline from 29 in 1932 to 16 in 1934, and overall infant mortality under one year decreases from 109 deaths in 1931 to 81 in 1934.
Two Indiana National Guard airmen were killed when two observation bi plane collided seven miles southeast of Murfreesboro Tennessee. Lt Henderson Wheeler and Lt Richard Miller, both Indianapolis, died in the crash while observer Lt. Wheeler also died. Lt W B Morgan survived and said the other ship suddenly loomed from behind. The wreck occurred en route from Miami air races to Sky Harbor airport.
Doolittle blamed weather for straying off course during a 2600 mile flight in a Vultee transport. He left Union Air Terminal Burbank at 3 27 p.m. and averaged about 217 miles per hour despite an hour and a half diversion caused by poor piloting and bad ice conditions.
