Former Senator Faulkner Dead at 81 in Martinsburg
Former United States Senator Charles J. Faulkner died at his Martinsburg home Sunday morning at age 81 after a period of good health. A prominent local figure and longtime lawyer, he was “grand old man of Berkeley County” involved in many community undertakings and large agricultural interests. Faulkner represented West Virginia in the U S Senate from 1887 to 1895 and served on multiple Democratic party leadership posts.

Bennett Sentenced After DUI Motorcycle Incident

Explosion kills child and injures man in Morgantown
In Morgantown West Virginia a kerosene poured into a coal stove caused a blast that killed a child and injured the father and three other children. Willard Gonder reportedly struck a fire with kerosene and ran into the street with his clothes aflame. Firemen extinguished the blaze. One child died at the hospital and two siblings were ill from smoke and burns while Mrs. Gonder was in shock.

In Birmingham Alabama a negro intruder shot two men early today at a suburban home, injuring Charles W. Byrd, 50, in the abdomen and his son Charles L. Byrd in the arm. The intruder terrorized a woman and three children before escaping as authorities hunted him.
