First Lieutenant H C McKinley son of Mr and Mrs Harry G McKinley of Hancock is missing in action in Germany since December 16. He serves with an infantry division of the First Army after going overseas last October. His wife Patricia B McKinley of Thurmont Md reports his last letter dated December 10. A Hagerstown native and former student of Hagerstown Business College he is a one year old father. His wife hopes he was with units isolated in the German drive.

Filling Station Robbed Of Tires in Maryland
Four Atlas tires and a tire certificate were stolen last night from Mac's Esso Service Station near the Western Maryland Railroad station. Police say entry was gained by breaking the glass above the front door lock and reaching in to unlock it. The theft, the tenth filling station robbery in months, was investigated by Sergeant J. B. Brown and Patrolman James Ray.

German Prisoner Scare Stirs Pinesburg
Pinesburg residents panicked when word spread a German prisoner was loose. Deputy Sheriff Bruce Spickler quickly arrested a 55-year-old Austrian-born man named Paul Czekara, in town for years. Arranged before Magistrate John Hetzer he pleaded no home or money and received thirty days on a vagrancy charge to secure shelter. Neighbors recalled Czekara knocking on doors for food while his apparent German appearance and voice fueled alarm, but Spickler later confirmed the whiskers are real.
