Smallpox Cases At Brownsville In County

Two smallpox cases at Brownsville were reported by County Health Officer Dr Perry F Prather The patients are a man and his fourteen year old son A vaccination clinic will be held at G T Browns store in Brownsville on Monday at 8 p m with Dr Gerald Levan in charge Assisted by health nurse Mrs Isabel Hull Vaccinations will be free Public health efforts aim to check the outbreak as the family is involved The Brownsville cases are the first in the county in two months and follow a wider summer epidemic across the northern part of the county and into Pennsylvania The outbreak may be halted if residents attend the clinic Myron T Herrick US ambassador to France sick with influenza sailed from Cleveland for Cherbourg France

Accidents On Slippery Roads Near Hagerstown

Dr E B Sefton narrowly escaped serious injury when his car ran off a Leitersburg pike embankment while passing a large truck. The trailer hauling a house contributed to the mishap. About a half mile from Hagerstown at 1 o clock yesterday. In a second incident Miss Lois Simon daughter of Dr and Mrs Simon sustained slight injuries when the car carrying Miss Ankeney Mrs Miller and Miss Ankeney left the road near St Pauls.

Life of John C English Veteran of Indian Wars

John C English a long time resident of Rohrersville died Wednesday afternoon. He endured frontier danger from youth as his father died in Civil War action and his mother died soon after his birth. Raised by Benjamin K Tritech in Rohrersville he learned shoemaking. Later he worked for a Cumberland coal company and lost his left arm in Montana while serving in the army. Funeral services are set for 3 pm today at Coffman Funeral Home with Rev J Edward Harms officiating. Interment will be at Rohrersville. Mr and Mrs Richard Dinekel have moved to Security.
