Moscow reports 545 seamen and 330 horses stranded on two Caspian floes after a rapid ice breakup near Dolgiv and Kul Ali islands. An airplane from Moscow brought food and medicines and headed to Astrakhan to aid the perilous rescue effort.
Citizens Bank Keedysville resumes normal operations after a 50 percent capital reduction and new funds of 15625. Depositors receive 40 percent of their deposits as certificates of beneficial interest with 60 percent available on reopening. Directors include Geeling Line Mullendere Thomas Wyand and others. John Snavely admitted stealing a $45 suit and received a three month sentence. He agreed restitution would be fitting, but the judge pressed for repayment. "Why not now?" asked Judge Paul N. Schaeffer. "Because I have it on," Snavely replied.
Miss Nerve Guessford of Carrollton avenue was found guilty on the first count for the actual sale of liquor without a license. State witness Robert Johnson testified to purchasing a pint from Guessford, with a later partial purchase, while Special Investigator Cushna supported the purchases. defense witnesses said no liquor changed hands.
Washington reports Britain plans to remind the United States that King George claims large Antarctic sectors including Little America. Britain would assert title by discovery if Byrd claims any land where Britain says its flag flies. E Russell Koons, 34, indicted for the murder of his wife Catherine Maugans Koons, 33, will go on trial this afternoon. The opening was delayed when Judge Albert A. Doub could not arrive before noon. Koons’ defense will claim the shooting was an accident in their Oak Trull avenue apartment. No eye witnesses exist. Koons initially said it was an accident. Mrs Koons, in hospital bed statements, said he had been drinking and quarreled over driving while intoxicated.

Col. Roscoe Turner, holder of east and west bound transcontinental flying records, announced an attempt to lower the land plane speed record over a three kilometer course at Wayne County Airport. The current record is 304.98 miles per hour set on September 4 by James R. Wedell at Glenview, IL.
In Budapest on February 26 newspapers touted a third murder after a leg was found in a vacant lot. The supposedly missing limb belonged to a living man, whose leg had been amputated in a hospital and afterward lost from an ambulance, refuting the murder connection.
Salt Lake City February 26 United Air transport wreck killed eight instantly, with bodies pushed forward as the plane struck the ground. Pilot Lloyd Anderson, 32, and seven others aboard perished. wreckage embedded engine in ground, no fire observed. Rescue teams scouted from Salt Lake City after snowbound searchers spotted the craft.
Former heavyweight champion Jack Dempsey, en route to a refereeing engagement, lost control of his car on a snowy Santa Fe trail west of the city. The vehicle blocked the road for two hours while Dempsey and his wife Hannah Williams continued on to their destination.
Chicago February 26 Police officer John Greer advertised a reward for his dog Sandy. Two hundred replies came in but none matched. He then searched on his own and found Sandy in a butcher shop, the fifth shop he checked.
Berlin report says Prince August Wilhelm, son of the exiled Kaiser, raised 965 marks in one afternoon during a two day Nazi drive for winter relief funds, while Storm troop leader Richter collected 1665 marks. Nazi leaders announced 45000 marks were raised for the needy on Saturday and expected similar totals on Sunday.
Cyrus and Ada M. Stouffer of Smithsburg Nora R. Bollinger and Martin Kelly Sr filed voluntary bankruptcy petitions in Baltimore Federal Court this Saturday. Four orders adjudicating the cases were signed and referred to Omer T. Kaylor, local referee. Stouffer listed assets of 3250 and liabilities of 6086.96. his wife 200 assets and 4353.53 liabilities. Mrs Bollinger no assets and 1764 liabilities. Kelly no assets and 895.66 liabilities.
In Seattle on February 26 a group of CWA workers uncovered a bundle of 50 cent pieces buried near a park stump. The treasure, wrapped in old newspaper, sparked excitement but secret service agents ruled the coins counterfeit.
Elkt on February 26 four Cecil county residences were destroyed in two fires hampered by lack of water. One blaze destroyed the parsonage of Rev. Ernest Woodward at Bayview. Total loss pegged at 315,000 and authorities expected investigations.
Philadelphia report details a small black mongrel adrift on ice in the Delaware River near Frankford creek. Patrol boat Blankenburg with 17 men rescued the dog after an hour, during which Patrolman Edward Corliss fell in and was saved by his crew. The incident cost about $250 in time, fuel, and effort in line of duty, with the dog to be destroyed if unclaimed.

Witnesses told Magistrate Howard B. McNutt that William Valentine, 34, beat his wife and threw his three sick children from bed, then assaulted a police officer. McNutt warned a 30 day sentence but discharged him due to the children’s scarlet fever and lack of fumigation.
