In TEXCOCG Mexico on February 24, fruit trees of Huexotla that yielded a poor crop were subjected to a severe banishing. Peasants held dances and rites then administered ten lashes to each of about fifty trees with leather straps, hoping for better harvests next season.

An ominous note for Onha's national holiday reveals a bomb found atop President Machario's residence last night. A soldier spotted the device on the top floor where the president resides. Twenty electricians who installed floodlights for the celebrations were arrested and questioned.
Chicago political scene held a brisk early vote as Republicans sought the mayoral prize. Ralph Hanna, an investigator, was slugged and Eddie Sklorov kidnapped amid upheaval at Ward offices of John H. Lyle. Guards kept order while reports of disturbances proved mostly false. two intoxicated men caused brief alarms at polling sites. Big Bill Thompson led the field in hopes of a third term, with Lyle and Albert trailing as results rolled in.
The incident occurred near the S. P. Angle quarry by the New York Central Iron Works over the weekend. Mr. Angle notified Deputy Sheriff Renner after three youngsters eight, ten, and twelve appeared at Lyon junk yard trying to sell a bag of stripped copper wire. The wire was cut into foot long pieces, and the thieves fled before identification. The case remains unsolved.

Afr and Mrs Daniel R Sellenberger near Greencastle seek to change twin sons born December 23 at Waynesboro hospital from their current names to Amos and Andy. The hospital staff had jokingly dubbed the boys Amos n Andy and the couple hope Pennsylvania vital statistics can authorize the name change so they can claim presents and a bank account for the boys.

Detroit police court case centers on the seven months old killing of radio political commentator Jerry Buckley. Three men Ted Pizzina Angelo Livicchi and Bernar tin face murder charges joined by six others at large. A special grand jury investigated the Buckley case in secrecy for six hours and handed up indictments.
LOCKPORT N Y Feb 24 Two men a woman and a 13 year old boy took off from here today in a seven passenger plane for the Pacific Coast in an attempt to establish a record for transcontinental passenger carrying flight. The plane was piloted by Lieutenant Allen Van De Mark. The passengers were William Lee, owner of the plane and president of the Lock Port Felt Company, Mrs Lee and their son.
A woman's alert actions halted a $4500 hold up in Brooklyn. A bandit was killed and four companions fled after a confrontation at the Fox Congress Theatre. Patrolman Edward Muller was wounded. Sidner P. Levine, the manager, was bound and gagged as the gang demanded the safe combination.
Paris February 24 Fei Frank Hawks, American speed flier, was named Americas premier aviator for 1934 by the International League of Aviators.
A shipload of Canadian potatoes arrived in Baltimore aboard the steamer Skagarind. The drought hurting local crops prompted imports from Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, with a 75 cent tariff per hundred pounds. The event recalled earlier debates over imported produce.
The Harvey Bean manslaughter trial opened in court this morning and may end with a jury before adjournment. Bean testified he drank nothing and drove Sweeney and Edmonds to sober them. Edmonds corroborated, while Sweeney did not appear. the Cressmans were en route to Washington when the fatal crash near Funkstown occurred.
Clearspring to seek authority for a 25 dollar bond issue to fund a town water system this summer. Burgess J Clarence Pound reports strong local support and a bill is in preparation for the legislature. Two delegations appeared before the Board of County Commissioners this morning filing petitions for road work in their districts. One request seeks rebuilding of the Leitershire to Miller's road, while the other asks for improvements to the Smoke Town to Boonsboro road.

A thief entered Noah Thomas's residence at 30 Mitchell Avenue and, while ransacking the lower floors, ate a meal on the spot. The intruder took a horsehide coat containing the car and garage keys, causing Thomas trouble this morning. Buffets and cupboards were emptied, but nothing else was stolen.
New York February 24 The Union League Club announced a bar will open in its new clubhouse as members expect repeal of the prohibition law soon. The club reports 4090 visitors at opening. departures reflect changes such as women access to dining and smoking rooms and gym equipment. H G Maugans of Williamsport underwent successful appendicitis surgery at Washington County Hospital after falling ill at Elkton.
Clearspring residents endorse State Senator William D. Byran proposed relief measure. The bill would return a portion of the county road tax levy to corporate towns, with Clearspring receiving about half of its assessed share. County commissioners will study details but expect to delay action until terms are worked out.
The Supreme Court ruled the Eighteenth Amendment valid today, allowing continued federal enforcement of the Volstead Act. It overturned Judge William Clark of New Jersey who had said ratification by state legislatures was improper and that conventions were required. The decision paves the way for government efforts in national Prohibition cases.

Two armed men robbed a Baltimore chain grocery store early today taking about $100 from the cash register and some change from the manager’s pockets. Manager Morton Hackerman and clerk Abe Goldman were alone when the robbers entered and issued a penciled warning in exchange for a package of cigars.
