Rail Strike Averts as Roosevelt Acts to Mediate
Washington February 15 The threatened walkout of 1300 Rutland Railroad workers over a wage cut was halted as President Roosevelt named a special board under the National Mediation Act to investigate the dispute. The board has 60 days to report and 30 more before any strike can take effect. Talks continued between Automobile Workers representatives and Allis-Chalmers in Milwaukee over defense orders, with other strikes in progress at Vanadium plant Niagara Falls and Youngstown Sheet & Tube.

Korjean Miler 27 of Chambersburg Francis Funk 20 Waynesboro Pauline Mundovii 24 Chambersburg Anna Thomas 21 Chambersburg Hazel Haines 21 Waynesboro Regina Cox 21 Chambersburg were treated for cuts and bruises at Washington County Hospital. Cox was northbound when her car passed boulevard signs and struck Miller's vehicle. Miller’s car upset and he cut free from his coat tail in the door. Patrolmen Drepear and Wolford investigated.
