Baltimore, Feb. 2. The Maryland Unemployment Compensation Bureau ruled that employers of workers whoreceive tips must pay unemployment insurance taxes on such gratuities. The board said tips are counted as wages, adding that all remuneration including tips should be base for contributions. If an employer has eight or more waiters each paid $2 weekly and receiving about $15 weekly in tips, the employer must pay tax on at least $15 for each worker.

Accused May Face New Poison Charge
In Wilmington North Carolina solicitor John Burney waited for a toxicologist report expected by Wednesday to determine if Edgar Leroy Smoak should be charged with a second poison death.
