Mrs Long to Enter Senate in Louisiana Plan

Louisiana Democratic Central Committee names Mrs Rose McConnell Long to fill the late Huey P Long’s U S Senate seat. She will be sworn in in Washington as Louisiana’s junior senator and serve until April 21, then seek election for the remainder of the term. Alien Ellender expected to win the next six year term. Governor Noe appointed Long and will nominate her for the short term, with Ellender as the elected successor. A brief statement from Mrs Long expressed happiness and gratitude for the party’s unanimous support.
