Locals Miss Mildred Jenkins Miss Edith Fulde Miss Julia Hamilton and many others are mentioned along with several hospital, travel, and homebound entries.
A quiet Sharpsburg wedding united Miss Abbie Wyand and J Wesley Dorsey at the Lutheran Church with Rev. H D Chapman officiating. The couple, accompanied by a few relatives, planned a Florida honeymoon before residing with the bride’s father Jacob Wyand.
William W. Humrichouse and family hosted at Springfield farm on Christmas Day from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with Mrs. Duvall assisting and guests including Mrs. Walton L. H. Osborne Miss Elizabeth Humbhhouse and Mrs. C. Goodloe Edgar. A separate at home was held on South Prospect Street yesterday. Miss Janet Diehl hosted near Greencastle with guests from Greencastle Chambersburg and nearby towns including Hagerstown.
A wedding at Christ Reformed parsonage on Broadway joined Miss Anabelle L. Pangle and Ralph B. Bowman. Rev. H A Fespernan officiated. The bride, daughter of H E Pangle, wore a simple outfit. attendants were Janice Myers and Cecil C. Cook. The couple will reside at 635 West Washington Street after honeymooning in their new home. LODGE ELECTION officers named at Medairy Lodge of Masons in Williamsport include John W. Kreps as Worshipful Master and John A. Everett as Treasurer.
Rochester dispatch reports 18 year old Carl Seals of Madison Wisconsin, crippled seven years from two childhood leg breaks, underwent two bone transplant operations using his mother's leg bones. Specialists say he should walk in six months and that the mother faces no permanent injury. The item also lists holiday visits by various people, including Frances Crore of Otterbein College and Edwin Nihiser, Brockport State Normal School director, visiting relatives in Rochester.
Fifty seven marriages were issued at the local court house during the Christmas weekend. The list includes Melvin C. Martin and Bertha S. Eshelman, among others from Smithsburg, Fort George Meade, Martinsburg, Waynesboro, and Martinsburg, with many couples from nearby towns.
Miss Edna May Kennell daughter of Mr and Mrs Leslie Kennell and Bernard L Gordon son of Mrs Mary A Gordon of Gettysburg Pa were married Saturday December 23 at the parsonage of Gettysburg Memorial United Brethren church by Rev Dr N B 8 Thomas. Both bride and groom are employed in Hagerstown and will reside at 539 Guilford avenue.
Plans are complete for the Hood College Club luncheon to be held Saturday afternoon starting at 1 o'clock at the Women's Club. Members must make reservations with Mrs. James Cannen by December 27.
The Christian Endeavor Society of St Pauls Lutheran Funkstown held a Sunday night program on The Birth of Our King with talks by members and Miss Elva Stockalager playing piano. The group sang Christmas carols and later gathered at Funkstown Square to sing at every corner. Next Sundays topic is Important Happenings of 1933 led by Miss Helen Wolford.
The Hood College Club hosts a gala holiday dance at The Club tonight from 10:00 PM to 1:30 AM with Jerry Harp and his eight piece orchestra. Hosts include Mr and Mrs Robert Foltz and others. many out of town guests expected.
A large audience saw a Christmas pageant at St. Pauls M E Church titled In Quest of a King. Directed by Miss Katie Batley, with a large cast portraying biblical figures and musical numbers, including readings by Mrs. Mitchell Fockler.
Major General Ben H. Fuller, commandant, told Secretary Swanson in his annual report that the Marine Corps needs a stronger force to properly carry out its missions. He called for an increase in strength to meet duties and ensure effectiveness.

At a Waynesboro lodge meeting, Odd Fellows from Hagerstown Torcersburg Chambersburg Waynesboro and nearby towns outlined winter social activities. The major event is a five hundred card tournament with teams from Hagerstown Waynesboro Mercersburg and others, running to March 22, with a banquet and silver cups for top scores. The Gilead Encampment team will be led by Elmer D. Miller with captaincy. The opening game is in Mercersburg on December 27. Tournament officers are President Filmer D. Miller Secretary H C Siryock and Treasurer Harry Wolfe.
Free screenings for children at the Y M C A in the auditorium start today at 4 P M and again at 7 30 P.M. Each day capacity is five hundred. the yearly event honors the motion picture machine donated by the late Lewis T. Byron and continued at Mrs. Byron’s request. Henry Weinberg provides reels including two Felix cartoons Crosses Crooks Makes Good and a five reel Western Cold Nerve with Bill Cody. no tickets needed, unlimited attendance restricted to one viewing per child.
The Maryland Scout Party raised 23 donated toys for the Day Nursery on Friday. Scoutmasters Hoffmaster Funk Nichols Butler Gabe Layman Knott led efforts at the theatre and toy HQ with support from Warner Brothers through Frank Boucher. Community groups, businesses, and police aided, while caroling and a St John’s Church brass quartet added festive traditions. Special Christmas services and evangelistic plans followed, with Rev. M. J. Gougher leading January meetings.
Miss Mildred H. Meyers daughter of J Calvin Meyers of Hagerstown and Howard H. Stouffer son of Horatio H Stouffer of Greencastle Pa were married Friday evening at St Pauls United Brethren church The Rev Dr F Berry Plummer officiated The bride wore cald crepe and brown velvet with accessories Attendants were Miss Elsie Meyers and Frank R Miller After a secret destination wedding trip the couple will live with the bride at her home until spring when they move to their own home Mr Stouffer is a farmer and the bride is a Frostburg Normal School graduate who has been teaching in the St Pauls school.
Rev W L Remnaberg of St Pauls Lutheran Funketown wrote a cantata titled Night of Wonder. Miss Anna Warrentelte played the music and Donald Warrenfeltz Jack Holliday Herbert Stockslager and Richard Hebb Jr spoke. Attendees came from Hagerstown. The program opened with recitations from the primary and junior departments.
