State Guards Stop Big Mob at Georgetown Jail
A mob of about 360 men gathered at the Georgetown county jail Sunday seeking an alleged assailant of a white woman. State militia with artillery kept the crowd at bay as officers moved the accused to the state penitentiary in Columbia. Eleven prisoners were brought out. the victim could not identify any of them. The incident marked the first time in 400 years troops were used to quell violence in Georgetown.

Miss Hdna McCauley, longtime editor and author, dies at 81
Evanston journalist and lecturer Miss Hdna May McCauley died at Evanston Hospital after a brief illness. Born in 1859 near Hagestown, she taught in Chicago schools for 17 years, edited the Chicago Evening Post, wrote on art and gardens, and helped found Evanston Scott Hall art gallery. Survived by sister Elia Rutherford, brother Charles H. McCauley, and nieces and nephews. An obituary was released over the radio.
