Former Gov Harrington Dies At Cambridge Home At 81
Emerson C. Harrington 81 Maryland’s governor during World War I died at his Cambridge home after weeks with pneumonia. Elected in 1915 he served four years and backed the work or fight policy with a compulsory labor law for able bodied men 18 to 50. He was a teacher before politics, later bank president and head of the Chesapeake Bay ferry system. He is survived by his widow two sons Emerson Harrington Jr and William J Harrington and a daughter Mrs Reginald Truitt.
