The German freighter Rhein, which fled Tampico on November 29, was reported seized by the Dutch destroyer Van Kinsbergen off Cuba this morning. The Nazi crew reportedly scuttled the ship as Dutch warships closed in while fire was observed aboard. Descriptions conflict on whether the Rhein sank or was captured after interception near the Idarwald, with earlier reports linking the Phrygia and Idarwald to Tampico run attempts and scuttling.
In Seattle on December 12, jurors shed tears as Frank Komhol, 36, pleaded his own case for acquittal in Judge Robert M. Jones's court on a second degree burglary charge. The jury nonetheless convicted him.
