Elks Stage Degree Work in Hagerstown Lodge Meeting

The Hagerstown Elks lodge held an initiation ceremony staged by Washington lodge degree team followed by speeches from Lawrence E. Busor, P. J. Callan, Leon R. Yourtee, Rev. W. B. McKinley, and Rev. Dr. Scott R. Wagner. A banquet concluded the program as Elks and wives plan Episcopal Church services in Lappans. The Maryland Elks association met for a business session on convention plans, with the next meeting set for January in Baltimore. About 75 Washington lodge members and nearly 400 from the local lodge attended.

City Fines Flare Up In Two Week Report

Chief of Police Thomas H. Barber filed a report to the Board of Street Commissioners showing 86 arrests and 380 dollars in fines over the past two weeks. Most fines stemmed from liquor law violations, with many arrests occurring on weekends including 28 arrests on a single Saturday night.

The Shupp property on Franklin street near Mulberry sold to City Savings Bank for $5,000 yesterday afternoon by city tax collector Daniel B. Downin for taxes. The Lowman stone house in Funkstown sold to A. J. Cahill of Hancock for $3,910. Calvin Lumm bought the Reynolds property on Frederick street for $3,525, and Joseph Young Jr. purchased a brick house on Church street for $1,375. Auctions were conducted by F. M. White and J. C Snyder.

Butchering at Everitt Home Near Clearspring

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Everitt held a Wednesday butchering at their home near Clearspring.
