Passengers on Steamer Northwestern Saved After Grounding
In a fierce snow storm the 3495-ton Northwestern of the Alaska Steamship Co ran aground 206 miles north of Seattle near Campbell River B C. All 112 passengers and part of the crew were ashore as rescue work occurred in blinding weather. The ship bound Seattle to Seward Alaska faced heavy seas and began taking on water as the night wore on. Passengers planned to lodge at a Campbell River hotel and be picked up by Alameda Co later bound for Alaska.
