Baltimore December 11 A blaze at the four story Atlantic Rag factory killed Edward Rithmiller 25 and left Thomas Fahey 38 feared dead after three walls collapsed trapping twelve. Firefighters battled the blaze as rags and wool waste fed the flames and the roof caved in within minutes.
Responders set five starme and two fireboats pumped water four blocks from their docks as teams battled a harbor blaze. The action involved rapid water discharge and coordinated depot protection amid shifting smoke.
Joseph J Bruno former county detective and Republican leader leads a group of six relatives in indictments for murder in the election eve killings at Kalayres. Schuylkill County Grand Jury handed five true bills after hearing half the summoned panel. Albert Thomas special prosecutor says trial set to open January 7.
The arrest of Ernestine Browne a negro maid at the New Condon Hotel was announced. A warrant issued by U S Commissioner James K Cullen followed a narcotics complaint from Bord N Martin narcotics supervisor and Frederick Barthle mass Washington agent. She was released on own recognizance for a December 19 hearing along with five other defendants.
Captain C. G. Emmert reported 283 arrests and 300.50 dollars in fines at the Board of Street Commissioners meeting last night. Routine matters were transacted.
President Roosevelt extolled the role of citizens and law enforcement in a National Crime Conference speech. He praised justice officials and stressed scientific methods, trained personnel, and community cooperation to curb narcotics, kidnappings, and lynchings. The address followed Hurley’s praise for crime suppression efforts. In Rockville, Hash faces a trial for patricide, charged with killing his father with a metal pipe at Quince Orchard.
The Young Men's Republican League will hold a regular meeting at the Dagmar Hotel on Wednesday at 7 30 o'clock. Officers will be nominated for the coming year and several business matters will be discussed.
John Fedorka, held for the Fairfield National Bank robbery, confessed to a $30 milling station robbery in Hagerstown and four other robberies across southern Pennsylvania. He implicated accomplices John Krall and Anthony Rayk. The trio, held in Harrisburg, is linked to raids in Pottsville Lancaster York Shippensburg Waynesboro Pittsburgh and Potta town. The confession spans several hold ups and money was divided after the bank job. Police say more questions will be asked today about other local robberies.
