Walter Cleland of the Y M C A led a meeting where every Y club sent its president and members. The group set December 26 for the Christmas Y dance and the annual Y Club banquet will be the third Monday in February with committees to be announced. Christmas donations for the poor include parties for underprivileged children and food baskets for needy families.
Winners of last night's Hagerstown Duplicate Bridge Tournament were Mrs. L. A. Sager Mrs. William T. Hassett Mrs. Edgar Jones Mrs. Edwin Smead Mrs. J. O. Funkhouser and Lewis Hamilton. The next Tournament will be at Fountain Head Country Club December 15 at 8 o'clock. For reservations phone 300 Mrs. Q. H. Miller.

Mr and Mrs Irvin E Turner announce the birth of a son at their home 222 Summit avenue on December 6.
The sophomore class held a half hour assembly on December 6 showing the United States Maritime Commission film Good Neighbors about U S trade with South America and the Good Will tours to foster friendliness and understanding. Students gave favorable comments and enjoyed the program.
Queen Esther Chapter No. 3 elects officers for the coming year led by Worthy Matron Mrs. Mary Horst and Worthy Patron Roy Horst. Associate matron is Mrs. Helen Snively with Ira Snively as associate patron. Grace Midldekauff is secretary and Eva Hutson treasurer. Edith Crist conducts, Alma Tomlinson assists, Blanche Schwinger trustees for three years. Dorothy Hahn and Hugh Smouse retire as former patrons.
Leitersburg Homemakers and husbands held a Christmas dinner at the Grange Hall. The hall was decorated with red candles and evergreens and games followed the meal with prize winners named. A door prize went to Mrs. Vernon Finfrock and gifts were exchanged at the end. Numerous members and guests attended, with a committee headed by Mrs. Howard Snyder organizing the event.
The Huyetts Homemakers' Club held its annual Christmas party at the Roxy Restaurant. Candles and fruit decorations lit the tables, gifts were exchanged, and Christmas carols were sung. Mrs. D. A. Kirk read The First Poinsettia and Mrs. W. R. Custer read Christmas Woods before games and prize awards. Attendees included Mrs. Custer, Mrs. Price, Mrs. Sword, Mrs. Hensell, and numerous members and guests.
A gallery lecture will be held at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in City Park at 3 30 Sunday afternoon. Director Medford will explain three December exhibits American Art Today from the New York World's Fair, Sculptures in Limited Editions lent by Robinson Galleries, and Modern German Graphic Art sponsored by the Carl Schurz Memorial Foundation. He also spoke yesterday at Clearspring High School on The Arts of the Ancient Near East, the eleventh in a school lecture series this fall.
Gettysburg College A Cappella Choir will hold its annual Christmas candlelight service in Brua Chapel on Sunday evening. Soloists include Richard Henry of Harrisburg Lois Snyder of Lykens and Margaret Zinn of Gettysburg. Dr Henry W A Hanson presides as the Christmas story is presented with a program featuring Adeste Fidelis Benedictus Hark Now O Shepherds Christmas Kyrie While Shepherds Watched Praise to the Lord and Beautiful Saviour.

A significant pageant titled The March of Mercy will be presented at First Christian Church Sunday at 7 30 PM under Mrs Virginia Hildebrand. About fifty participants portray the National Benevolent Association of the Christian church which supports twelve homes for the aged and orphans. Kenneth L Adams sings I Walked Today Where Jesus Walked at 9 30 AM service. Rev William M Norment preaches on Demonstrating faith.
The Porter Chemical Company held its second annual banquet with a turkey dinner followed by a program featuring Harold Porter as welcome speaker, Richard Lehman, xylophone duet, several vocal solos, readings, and group singing led by George Emmons. Door prizes went to multiple guests as Mrs. Wilda Troxell chaired arrangements. attendees included Harold Porter and numerous spouses and employees.
The Children's Theatre stages two Christmas plays this afternoon at 2 in the Women's Club auditorium marking the first performances of the year. A scene from The Bird's Christmas Carol features a large cast including Mrs Ruggles Aud rey Mowen Sarah Maude Katherine Simpson Peter Blair Gettig Cornelia Joan Cameron Hily Nan Lakin Seaman Peory Susie Best er Clem Billy Poffenberger Larry Connie Feiser Kitty Nancy Pope. Dolls follows with a cast led by Mother Ellen Schwartz Annie Mary Jane Crider Child Mary Bester Genevieve Mary Elizabeth Dansberger Fashionable Lady Betsy Cannon Marie Antionette Mary Alice Kneisley Harlequin Ann Stouffer Baby Doll Jane Hershey Peasant Jane Mathias Dutch Doll Hope Draper Soldier Peggy Stott. The theatre is directed by Misses Dorothy Loy and Mary Ella Hook.
The D A R will meet at 7 30 PM on Monday December 11 at the home of Mrs Mark E Reed on Oak Hill avenue. The event invites members to attend the regular monthly gathering hosted by Mrs Reed.

Midway Council No 44 Jr O U A M Tilghmanton will hold a fair at the Jr O U A M hall opening Wednesday evening December 27 and continuing through January 1. There will be special entertainment each evening with door prizes.
Miss Janet Mowrer spoke to the Current Events Club on University Life In France. She compared French and American education, noting the normal schools and stricter social rules for coeducation. She shared experiences living with a French family during her studies. The next meeting is set for the third Thursday in January.
Officers of Ithiel Chapter R A M elected in October will be installed at ceremonies in the Masonic Temple on Monday evening December 18. John H Strite will be installed as High Priest succeeding W C Diehl during the regular session opening at 7 30 o clock. Refreshments follow and all companions are urged to attend.
Mr and Mrs Paul Hughes announce the marriage of their daughter Pauline Virginia to Mr Charles Statley Wilt of Western Port. The ceremony was performed Friday November 17 by Rev Newton D Cosner.
Ambler Pennsylvania December report states J Harvey Gravell a paint maker who discharged all debts for his 100 employees two years earlier died at 63. He called the act a Christmas gift and previously gave each employee's wife 300 dollars, praising the homemaker for shaping a good worker.

Mrs Joseph C Byron plans a week end dinner at South Prospect Street for Miss Rachel McKinley and Mr E Stuart Bushong with Parran and Vance. The Otterbein Guild of the Emmanuel U B Church met at the church on Thursday evening with Miss Hazel Stouffer leading the service on Toward a World Brotherhood in Christ. William Cottingham read, followed by a hymn, a Nativity poem by Virginia Poffenberger, Living Together in Gods Family by Kathleen Huffer, and A Champion of the Poor by Hazel Cash. Genevieve Wyant gave the closing prayer. Refreshments were served to many members listed.
Mrs C N Barr announced the marriage of her daughter Miss Juanita Brogonier to Arthur Hoffman Jr son of Mr and Mrs Arthur Hoffman of Hagerstown. The ceremony took place in Virginia on Wednesday November 22.
A butchering party at Mr and Mrs W H Groff's home included a fine dinner for workers. Four hogs were slaughtered totaling 1397 pounds. Attendees and helpers listed include Co J Smith Clinton Dayton George Boyer Detrich Clarence Summers Donald Keplinger Guy Moats and several women and children.
