Baltimore August 30 one sugar wholesaler and four retail grocers have been suspended from dealing in sugar for the duration of sugar rationing. The Office of Price Administration ordered the suspensions after hearings yesterday. B K Miller of Clinton Md wholesaler was accused of accepting counterfeit ration stamps for 15155 pounds of sugar. The suspended retailers are William F Stemm trading as Stemm Brothers Winfield Md and three Baltimore dealers Joseph Ingan Bruce W Knauff and Jacob Zells.
Ensor notes property damage claims have jumped over 80 percent since prewar levels and personal injury settlements up 27 percent. Rising costs stem from scarce spare parts, higher labor costs, and aging, more defective cars on the road.

Jacob Menahem Alcalay, the final of 23 Stern gang members charged in the Haifa railway yards attack, was sentenced to death by a Jerusalem military court. A DCS plane with four aboard vanishes on an Newark to New Orleans flight. Burgess of Atlantic and Pacific Airlines says the missing craft was first reported at 4 63 p.m. yesterday after signaling a planned landing at Harrisburg airport. Aboard were a pilot co-pilot and two company employees. State police civil aviation crews and inquiries through Galveston and New Orleans are active. Grain market firms as Midwest weather aids demand for corn oats and wheat.
Private Ali M. Ipar Hollywood writer and husband of actress Virginia Bruce faces an inquiry at Fort Lewis Washington over three consecutive three day passes obtained on his wedding eve. Maj Gen Paul W Kendall orders swift questioning to determine if the passes were legally obtained or issued by error.
In Paris on August 30 the French Socialist party rejected Leon Blum’s leadership by a 2964 to 1368 vote. The party spurned the leadership report urged by Daniel Mayer, who then resigned with his aides. Blum warned that Communist participation would serve Russian interests.
